Manchester United are ready to make Northern Ireland international defender Paddy McNair available for loan this season, according to the Daily Star.
Though currently on the club’s pre-season tour of China, the 21-year old is thought to be one of the players new manager Jose Mourinho is ready to axe, at least temporarily.
He emerged as a fairly regular starter under Louis van Gaal during his 3-5-2 formation stage, as well as the injury crisis that dogged much of last season.
While he is said to retain hope he can convince the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ that he is competent enough to command a place in his squad, the Portuguese tactician may well afford him some time away.
Scottish champions Celtic are understood to have been alerted to his situation at Old Trafford, with compatriot Brendan Rodgers reportedly keen.
The Hoops are expected to have to fend off potential interest in a raft of Championship clubs as well, should he be made available.
