Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they think Sergio Romero should be given a chance to stake a claim for a place in the Premier League ahead of David de Gea, following the 6-0 win over Tranmere in the FA Cup.

The 96-cap Argentina international was making his tenth appearance of the campaign against the League Two side, in which time he has kept eight clean sheets and conceded just two goals - impressive.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, the 32-year-old has 54 appearances while tallying up a total of 35 shutouts with just 24 goals going past him - he is an extremely solid glovesman.

In contrast, David de Gea has looked shaky of late, with his flapped attempt to stop Ismaila Sarr's effort away to Watford earlier this season a notable howler while he was far from convincing against Liverpool recently - he was perhaps lucky to see VAR save his blushes after Roberto Firmino capitalised when he dropped the ball under pressure from Virgil van Dijk.

Albeit against League Two opposition in Tranmere, Romero recorded yet another shutout, prompting a number of United fans on Twitter to call for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give the former Monaco keeper a chance.

Let's see what they've been saying...

To kick off the discussion, these two fans both voiced how they feel Romero deserves a chance to play ahead of De Gea.

Led said that it is "important" that the Spain international feels some competition for his Premier League place, whereas Ciaran said dropping the former Atletico Madrid man "might just get the message through" that he needs to up his game.

Elsewhere, 'El Patron' said that they've "been saying this for over a month" before adding that the former Sampdoria glovesman "deserves to start" in the league - Chris also said that he thinks Romero deserves the opportunity, calling him the "ultimate professional".

Lastly, a fan with the username @_McSauce__ said that this is a switch that is "well overdue" before calling the Argentine a "top keeper".

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

Lee then added that it's "not like he hasn't earned it" - it wouldn't be a surprising call from Solskjaer by any means if the Norwegian did decide to mix things up in between the sticks.
