Cristiano Ronaldo was very close to rejoining Manchester United in 2013, Patrice Evra claims Sir Alex Ferguson has told him, according to The Metro.
Evra claims he had a conversation with Ferguson in spring 2013, just weeks before the legendary manager announced his retirement, in which Ferguson told him he was “99% sure” that Ronaldo was going to rejoin United that summer.
The two players spent four years at Old Trafford together, before Ronaldo left for Real Madrid for a world record fee of £80million.
Evra then joined Juventus a year later, after being left out several times during his last year at the club by manager David Moyes.
Evra has also claimed that Ferguson told him he would remain the manager for “another five years”, and that the defender then thought they had a realistic chance of winning the Champions League again.
Despite constant speculation over the last few transfer windows, Ronaldo has never really appeared close to rejoining his former club.
He appeared 196 times for United in six years there, scoring 84 goals.
