Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to bring in at least two new players during the summer transfer window.
Ferguson has revealed the club’s owners are prepared to back him in the transfer market this summer in a bid to “kick on” from this season’s title success.
The Scot hopes to secure at least two new faces to ensure United can successfully defend their Premier League crown next term.
He said: “Having spoken with the Glazer family, there is every intention to kick on.
“We possibly need two players. It depends. If a player came along who met our criteria we would push the boat out and get him, irrespective of how many players we have.”
United romped to league glory this season and Ferguson hopes to beat Chelsea’s record 95-point haul but the Old Trafford boss expects a tougher challenge next season.
Manchester City are set to spend big after failing to mount a serious title defence and Ferguson believes Chelsea will be serious contenders for Premier League glory next season, especially if Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge.
“Chelsea will definitely be involved next season,” Ferguson added. “They have some good players and it looks likely Mourinho will be going there.
“I said last week I don’t mind winning the league in the last game of the season, but now we have won it with four games left, I look at it being one thing to win the league and another to do it by beating the record.
“Ninety-six points would be phenomenal. I don’t know if that could ever be beaten.”
