Manchester United’s record goal-scorer, Sir Bobby Charlton is delighted with the signing of Robin van Persie and believes the Dutchman will become a star at Old Trafford. Manutd.com reports.

Van Persie has immediately slotted into the United side and scored four goals in his first three games, including a hat-trick at Southampton.

He got off the mark with a superb volley against Fulham and showed exactly why Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £24million to sign the player from Arsenal.

Although, the Reds were given a scare when it was reported that the striker suffered a knock while on international duty with Holland- but he overcame the problem and featured in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Wigan.

In his column for the United Review, Sir Bobby said: "We’re very happy to have Robin van Persie here, you can’t possibly see him not scoring goals for us.”

It is hoped that the signing of Van Persie will take some of the goal-scoring burden away from Wayne Rooney, but also act as a wake-up call to the former Everton striker-whose place in the starting line-up was almost guaranteed until the arrival of the Dutchman.

Sir Bobby also believes the 29-year-old is someone who can create a chance from nothing and will continue to be a big hit with the supporters.

"It’s just paradise for any team’s supporters when they’ve got someone who can potentially score from nothing. He’s got this skill and if his team are playing well then he will score the goals”, he added.
