Over the last years, few players in world football have suffered a fall from grace greater than Memphis Depay.

Indeed, the Netherlands international arrived at Manchester United in summer 2015 under the moniker of the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo'; now, he's fighting with an ageing Ashley Young for a place on the bench.

And it seems the appointment of Jose Mourinho has put the final nail in the coffin of the 22-year-old's Old Trafford career. The Portuguese has issued him just twelve minutes of game time in the Premier League so far this season, coming in the form of three substitute appearances.

Depay appears to realise the jig is up. During a recent interview with MetroNieuws, the former PSV talisman admitted that although he loves being at United, he wants to play regular football.

With that in mind and the January transfer window by no means as far away as it may seem, we've taken a look at six potential destinations where Depay could land next...

EVERTON

Everton v Crystal Palace - Premier League

Depay probably doesn't want to leave the Premier League just yet and Everton represent one of the more plausible destinations within the top flight.

It may seem a slightly random suggestion but the Dutchman made his name at PSV after rising through their youth ranks - the club Toffees gaffer Ronald Koeman has become synonymous with, serving there as both a title-winning player and manager.

Furthermore, new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is ready to splash the kind of cash Manchester United would expect for the winger.

AC MILAN

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid - UEFA Champions League Final

AC Milan were linked with Depay at the end of September and he's certainly the breed of high-profile player that'd appeal to the fallen giants, who are looking to make their way back to the big time after spending a decade in the wilderness.

They too are under new ownership, but having taken over the club in August, the Chinese consortium didn't have much time to splash the cash in the summer.

Depay could act as a poster by for Rossoneri's new era - and failed Premier League wingers (such as Mohamed Salah and Juan Cuadrado) have a knack of running riot in the gentler-paced Italian top flight.

PSG

Paris Saint-Germain v Arsenal - UEFA Champions League Group Stage - Group A

Louis van Gaal claimed in summer 2015 that he'd been 'forced' to sign Memphis Depay because of rivalled interest from PSG.

Would the French champions still be keen on the Netherlands winger with his recent form (or lack of) in mind, especially after signing a wide attacker in Jese during the summer?

That remains to be seen but PSG definitely possess deep enough pockets to cover the majority of Manchester United's original investment.

CHINESE SUPER LEAGUE

Brazil v Chile - FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 - Second Round

Chinese Super League clubs have more money than sense and are prepared to use it to attract the highest profiles possible to the Far East.

The likes of Hulk, Ramires, Alex Teixeira and Jackson Martinez have already made the lucrative trip but aged just 22, Depay would undoubtedly be their biggest and most surprising coup yet.

The money would inevitably appeal to the Orange starlet, but joining the CSL ranks would pretty much end his career at the highest level.

NICE

Hull City v Liverpool - Barclays Premier League

Nice have developed an unusual reputation when it comes to getting the best out unfulfilled talent.

They transformed Hatem Ben Arfa into the world beater heralded during Nhis ewcastle days last season and have now taken on the almighty challenge of making Mario Balotelli a ferocious goalscorer once again. He's netted five times in just three Ligue 1 appearances.

But the lack of competitiveness in Ligue 1 might concern Depay - there are certainly more enticing options on the table. Likewise, Nice aren't exactly big spenders, so a loan deal seems far more likely.

FENERBAHCE

Celtic v Fenerbahce - UEFA Europa League Group Stage - Group A

Plenty of former Premier League stars end up in the Turkish top flight, not least including ex-Manchester United striker and Depay's Netherlands team-mate Robin van Persie.

Indeed, the Super Lig recently relaxed its laws on foreign players, which has allowed a copious number to arrive in recent seasons, and its clubs appear to be paying the likes of RVP and Galatasaray man Lukas Podolski very handsomely.

However, the Super Lig is more a home for declining greats - Depay's still at the start of his career.
