SIX transfers Man United could complete in January

The close of the transfer window saw Manchester United bring in some very big name signings, but it doesn’t mean they will stop there as they will already be planning for their next spending spree.

When January comes around, Louis van Gaal can once again add to his team, with many fans hoping the club target some extra defensive reinforcements. With about four months left, every player at Old Trafford will still need to perform to their best or risk being replaced.

Here are SIX possible signings the Red Devils can make when the transfer window reopens on January 1st 2015.

Kevin Strootman

Name: Kevin Strootman
Age: 24
Position: Central Midfield
Nationality: Netherlands
Club: Roma
Price: £20 – £25 million

Kevin Strootman is a player Louis van Gaal is already familiar with as the club has confirmed on multiple occasions that they will make a formal offer during the upcoming January window.

The only reason Strootman didn’t complete his switch to Old Trafford was because he was nursing an injury which rule him out of the World Cup. Based on various rumours, he could very well become a Manchester United player come the end of the next transfer window.

Mats Hummels

Name: Mats Hummels
Age: 25
Position: Centre-Back
Nationality: Germany
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Price: £28 – £32 million

Manchester United’s chase for Mats Hummels has been a long standing saga throughout the summer transfer window. Borussia Dortmund has stressed that they were not willing to let him leave, but Louis van Gaal contiously chased the centre-back up until deadline day.

The fact that United have not added a proper central defender into their squad means they will be right back in the chase of Hummels, who is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the game at the moment.

Martin Odegaard

Name: Martin Odegaard
Age: 15
Position: Attacking Midfield
Nationality: Norway
Club: Stromsgodset IF
Price: £10 – £12 million

Although he is only 15, Martin Odegaard is being tracked but a large number of clubs with Manchester United being one of them. His club is said to have already received offers of up to £12million for their wonderkid as more bids are expected to follow.

Even if United can complete a deal for the attacking midfielder, it is very unlikely that he will feature for the first team right away. The most probable process is to guarantee his services and loan him either to his current club or a lower division English side.

Marco Reus

Name: Marco Reus
Age: 25
Position: Left Winger
Nationality: Germany
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Price: £19.8 million (release clause)

Marco Reus only recently returned to Manchester United’s radar towards the closing of the transfer window, but even though they have added quite a host of stars to their midfield, Louis van Gaal won’t turn down the chance to sign the German star.

He was valued at £40million, but due to a clause in his contract, if he is still at Borussia Dortmund next summer, his release clauses will automatically be set at a cut-back £19.8 million. Despite his reoccurring ankle injury, United along with many other clubs will surely take the gamble to try and complete the deal.

Juan Cuadrado

Name: Juan Cuadrado
Age: 26
Position: Right (Wing Back, Midfield)
Nationality: Colombia
Club: Fiorentina
Price: £28 – £32 million

Should Louis van Gaal continue to build on his 3-5-2 formation, Manchester United will not only need to consider a few more centre-backs, but look to reinforce their right wing-back formation as well. Juan Cuadrado is seen as the perfect candidate because he already plays a similar role at current club Fiorentina.

Having impressed at the World Cup, Cuadrado can offer another quick outlet down the right flanks as Van Gaal plans to improve all aspects of the squad. In an attacking sense, United look to have everything covered, but on the contrary, they still need a lot of work to complete the ideal backline.

Arturo Vidal

Name: Arturo Vidal
Age: 27
Position: Central Midfield
Nationality: Chile
Club: Juventus
Price: £35 – £40 million

Manchester United’s chase for Arturo Vidal was probably the biggest transfer sagas of the summer and even though the window has closed, Louis van Gaal will still be chasing for his signature come January.

Vidal’s move to Old Trafford was halted with a knee injury he picked up ahead of the World Cup as we recently saw him pick up another knock during an international friendly. Should he return to full fitness ahead of the next window, there is no stopping United tabling yet another bid to try and land one of their top midfield targets.
