Manchester United put an end to their woeful run of domestic form and sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup last night with a 1-0 victory against rivals Manchester City, giving the Red Devils bragging rights and redemption after a Premier League defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side earlier in the season.
Juan Mata was the hero on the evening as he struck the only goal of the match, setting up an intriguing tie between United and West Ham for a place in the semi-finals of the cup.
With City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea all being eliminated this week, Manchester United have a big chance of going all the way to glory at Wembley, and central defender Chris Smalling celebrated the win last night on social media.

Having turned their poor form around, United now face a test to build upon this result but will be confident of doing so with winnable matches in the next week and a bit against Burnley, Fenerbache and Swansea City.
November could be make-or-break for the Red Devils, though, as they face Arsenal and Feyenoord before a double-header against West Ham – with one game in the league and the other being an EFL Cup quarter-final clash.
Should United navigate through November confidently, then they may just find themselves back in the hunt for Premier League glory.
