Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Manchester Evening News confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thanked Tranmere's captain - Scott Davies - for firing the players and the supporters up.

Davies - a Manchester City fan - said before the game that he and his family had a "big hatred" of United and that "if myself and my football club can have an influence on them having another bad day then great" - brutal.

Following those comments, the Tranmere glovesman then went on to concede six goals against the Red Devils, with five of those coming in the first half - it's safe to say he didn't put his money where his mouth was.

After the full-time whistle had sounded, Solskjaer then thanked Davies for "firing up the fans and the players" after United recorded their biggest win since August 2011.

In our opinion, the former Molde boss probably shouldn't have got involved personally once the game was done, as it does come across as slightly unprofessional and needless after his side gave Tranmere such a humbling 90 minutes.

Nevertheless, let's see what the United fans on Twitter thought of Solskjaer's words...

To kick off the reaction, it doesn't seem like these two supporters were very impressed with the Norwegian's comments.

Daniel said that "Ole is getting more and more pathetic by the day" after hearing what the Red Devils boss said to Davies, whereas another fan simply asked Manchester City to "please put this man out of his job" - presumably by beating them in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, this fan with the username 'e' said that Solskjaer is "getting too big for his boots" - interesting.

Meanwhile, Sam and a fan with the username 'Ole Out' both mocked Davies for his status as a League One player, but also used that as a stick to beat Solskjaer with in.

Sam said that the United manager "needs help from League One dross to fire up the players" before saying that should be Solskjaer's job, whereas the other fan said "shut up" and that "no one even knows" Davies or what he said.

Lastly, another fan simply called Solskjaer a "savage" - Ole Gunnar Savage to be precise.
