TACTICAL ANALYSIS: Why Manchester United lost the battle at Olympiakos

A frankly rather dire Manchester United lost 2-o to Olympiacos in the first leg of the Round of 16 Champions League clash.

From the off – chiefly because of Adnan Januzaj’s omission – fans were calling into question David Moyes’s tactical set-up.

A team set-up to counter without any drive or vigour going forward, a team consisting of a paperweight and tactically inept Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley centre-midfielder pairing, Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling providing a 90-minute Chuckle Brother tribute act. The list of Manchester United flaws is painful.

However, this singular snapshot of United’s tactical set-up proves the most damning. Unlucky lads.
