Manchester United are reportedly lining up a summer move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen if David De Gea leaves the club.
According to Don Balon, United have been monitoring the 25 year-old for quite some time and are willing to pay €100million (£87m) to make a deal happen.
Of course, all of this depends on the future of De Gea, who will no doubt be the subject of intense transfer speculation once again this summer.
United’s incredible Spanish stopper is wanted by Real Madrid, and although Mourinho is reluctant to lose his star man, he is ready to jump into a massive deal to secure ter Stegen.
Valued at £54.00m by Transfermarkt, it is perhaps no surprise that the asking price for ter Stegen is so steep. World class goalkeepers are hard to come by these days, which would also explain why the Red Devils are willing to splash out huge money if they lose De Gea.
That said, United will of course do everything in their power to keep De Gea, but if they do lose him ter Stegen is not the answer.
Both Alisson from Roma and Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid would probably be less costly than the German, and they are both superior keepers.
Ter Stegen is an incredible shot stopper but he tends to struggle when facing intense pressure from crosses, something that could be a huge problem in the Premier League.
Alisson and Oblak are both taller and stronger keepers, and are also both younger than the German, so have more room to improve.
