David de Gea is ready to sign a new long-term Manchester United deal - as recently reported by The Sun - and securing the future of the Spaniard will help the Red Devils bring the required standard of player to the club next summer.

The Chalkboard

After a lot of talks, it appears that De Gea is now close to penning a new deal with United, which is just the news that the club's fans wanted to hear.

The 28-year-old has been holding discussions with United for some time, and it appeared at one point that he would be leaving Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, however, a new contract is imminent, and De Gea's weekly packet could reach £400,000 after bonuses.

Losing De Gea would have sent out a terrible message when it comes to United's future plans, but the fact that he is set to stay will have a huge impact on the club's transfer window at the end of the season.

Indeed, having seen De Gea commit his future, leading targets will want to make the move to Old Trafford.

United need a big summer window

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has seemingly emerged as United's number one transfer target, but it seems likely that the club will have to wait until the end of the season in order to potentially sign the Senegal international.

United also need at least one new central midfielder next summer, with Fred failing to impress and Paul Pogba potentially moving on.

The Red Devils are also light when it comes to options in the centre-forward position, with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku the only first-team players seriously comfortable operating in that area of the field.

United are no longer the first choice of players coveted by the top European clubs due to their struggles in recent seasons.

De Gea's expected stay has shown that United are still major players though, and the Spaniard will help the club convince stars to make the move to Old Trafford.
