Down the years, Manchester United have possessed some of the greatest strikers to ever grace the English top flight.

Indeed, United are still synonymous with the four-man strike force of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that fired them to a famous treble in 1999, whilst the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dimitar Berbatov, Robin van Persie and now Zlatan Ibrahimovic have followed in their footsteps.

But we at FootballFanCast are more interested in the flipside of the coin - namely, the strikers who've caused the 13-time Premier League champions the most trouble, heartache and anguish throughout their long and prestigious history.

So aided by our mates at Transfermarkt, here's a rundown of the ten strikers with the best scoring records against the Red Devils. Manchester City, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Liverpool favourites all feature, but there are a few shock inclusions on this list, too.

10. Mark Viduka - Eleven Apps, Five Goals

A somewhat unexpected striker kicking off this list, Mark Viduka sneaks into the top ten. He faced the Red Devils regularly throughout spells with their bitter rivals Leeds and Middlesbrough, but just one of his five strikes came for the latter club. Overall, a near one-in-two strike rate is incredibly impressive from the Aussie icon.

9. Tuncay Sanli - Eleven Apps, Five Goals, Two Assists

From the unexpected to this list's greatest shock, Tuncay Sanli won't be remembered as being of the same quality as the rest of the forwards on this list but nonetheless, his track record speaks for itself. However, four of his five goals came before the Turk's Premier League career kicked off, netting all four for Fenerbahce in the Group Stages of the 2004/05 Champions League campaign.

8. Paolo Di Canio - Ten Apps, Five Goals

PAOLO DI CANIO

Paolo Di Canio's a real legend in East London, in no small part due to his ability to turn it on against the Premier League's big boys. The controversial striker notched up four strikes against United for the Hammers, alongside another for his prior employers Sheffield Wednesday.

7. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - 15 Apps, Seven Goals, One Assist

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Another former Leeds man, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink claimed two goals against United during his time at Elland Road, before adding to his tally with Chelsea (four) and Middlesbrough (one). In fact, the only club the Dutchman featured for against the Red Devils without scoring was Charlton Athletic.

6. Edin Dzeko - Nine Apps, Seven Goals, Two Assists

Edin Dzeko's inconsistency in front of goal was often of great frustration to Manchester City fans, but his record against United is regular as clockwork and in fact arguably the strongest return on this list. Indeed, the Bosnian battering ram played a part in nine goals in exactly the same number of appearances versus the Red Devils.

5. Les Ferdinand - 19 Apps, Eight Goals, One Assist

LES FERDINAND

A great from the early Premier League era, Les Ferdinand scored against the Red Devils for QPR, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and even Bolton Wanderers between 1992 and 2005. In fact, his strike in 2004 was his only goal for the latter club.

4. Sergio Aguero - Ten Apps, Eight Goals

Sergio Aguero

The second Manchester City star on this list, Sergio Aguero boasts a phenomenal eight goals in just ten appearances versus his club's bitter local rivals. Curiously, last season was the only campaign in which the Argentine has failed to find the net against United since moving to the Premier League in 2011.

3. Robbie Fowler - 23 Apps, Nine Goals, One Assist

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is known as 'god' on Merseyside - in no small part due to his strong record against the Reds' biggest enemies. Indeed, he notched up nine goals in 23 outings against the Old Trafford outfit throughout his career, two of which came for United's aforementioned foes - Manchester City.

2. Thierry Henry - 23 Apps, Nine Goals, One Assist

Arsenal were Manchester United's biggest title rivals for the first half of the Premier League era and double-winner Thierry Henry regularly put the Carrington outfit to the sword, playing a part in ten goals from 23 outings. Curiously, all of his nine strikes came in the Premier League, failing to score past United in Europe and the FA Cup.

1. Alan Shearer - 29 Apps, Ten Goals, Four Assists

ALAN SHEARER

Famously the one that got away, Sir Alex Ferguson must have rued his failure to sign Alan Shearer every time United faced Newcastle. Indeed, no player has scored against the Red Devils more than the Magpies legend - perhaps an inevitable consequence of being the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer.
