According to reports in Italy, via Sport Witness, Manchester United are ready to jump at the chance to sign Roma centre back Kostas Manolas.
The Greek giant has a release clause of just €36m (£31m), and Roma are reportedly “scared” about not being able to convince him to pen a new deal with a larger clause.
So, with Manchester United in absolutely dire need of a long-term partner for the ever-improving Victor Lindelof, Football FanCast’s writers have given their verdicts on whether the Red Devils should make a £31m swoop for the Roma ace…
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…
“I haven’t seen a huge amount of Manolas but he has thoroughly impressed me whenever I have seen him in action. In the modern economic climate, a price-tag of £31 million is an absolute steal for a quality central defender with a wealth of experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues. It’s clear that Solskjaer needs to upgrade his defensive options this summer, and Manolas could yet be a perfect partner for Lindelof if United trigger his release clause.”
“It’s clear United need significant investment in their defence and if his reported release clause is to be believed then Solskjaer should be all over it. He’s been highly thought of for a while and at 27, arguably still has his best years ahead of him so would represent excellent business. Manolas has plenty of European experience and if his performance against Barcelona in last season’s Champions League is anything to go by, he’d be a superb addition to United’s squad.”
“Kostas Manolas is a brilliant player. He’s strong, quick and genuinely experienced at the top level of the game. It is not every day that release clauses like this come along and United simply have to swoop. Ed Woodward has made a fair few mistakes in recent transfer windows but this is an open goal. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had better hope he doesn’t miss.”
