According to AS, Real Madrid are prepared to sell Gareth Bale this summer with Manchester United inevitably one of the most interested parties, alongside Bayern Munich. The Wales international is one of the most talented forwards around and United seem to be a few world-class players short of bitter rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

But that doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a hit for the Red Devils - plenty of high-profile, big-money signings end up being flops and Real Madrid reportedly want €175million (£151.4m) for the 29-year-old. With that in mind, Football FanCast's writers have given their verdicts on Bale potentially joining the United ranks below...

Billy Meyers

"Bale would be an awful signing for Manchester United. If they do bring the Welshman to Old Trafford, it would be a truly stupid move and would also show that they haven't learn from their past mistakes - the signing of Alexis Sanchez a good example. He would be on astronomically high wages, wouldn't represent a good long-term investment given his age, and isn't even guaranteed to stay fit."

James Beavis

"I think he would be a decent signing, but they must not pay over the odds for him. I just have a feeling that Bale will always be ready-made for the Premier League because of his style no matter what age he is, and his pace and power mean that he would destroy teams outside the top 6. Of course him remaining fit is the key thing, but the fact that he can play anywhere across the frontline would be brilliant for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Some may have their doubts over a move in terms of injuries and the wages he could demand, but he would succeed where Sanchez has failed."

Ben Goodwin

"A world-renowned superstar with a bad injury history joining Manchester United for a massive fee on ridiculous wages just to appease the fans? What could possibly go wrong? Seriously though, the Red Devils shouldn't go anywhere near the Welshman, and should instead focus their efforts on the revamp their squad has needed for several years now, investing in young talents like Jadon Sancho. Bale is Alexis Sanchez 2.0."

Jack Saville

"His arrival would make them the envy of the Premier League, but his torrid record with injuries make him a huge gamble. Add in the fact that Solskjaer already has Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez to choose from on the left side of his front-free and the case for his arrival weakens. It’s the type of marquee signing to inject some magic back into the club, but that doesn’t mean it would be a wise transfer."
