Manchester United’s fortuitous victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday saw them all but secure a top-four finish and secure their return to the Champions League after a year’s absence.
Their 2-1 victory bought an end to a positive week for the Red Devils, who signalled their intent for next season by sealing the signature of one of European football’s hottest properties; Memphis Depay.
Subject to a medical, the Dutch prodigy will become Louis van Gaal’s first summer signing as the United boss looks to strengthen his squad once again in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
And thanks to their status as a Champions League club, Depay’s signing could be the first of many world class additions to the squad over the coming months, with a whole host of names linked with a move to Old Trafford.
One such man who has been linked with a switch to Manchester this past week is Bayern Munich superstar Thomas Muller, and with rumours that United are ready to prize the German international away from the Bundesliga; he could be the next big arrival at the club.
Despite wrapping up another league title, there seems to be growing discontent at Bayern in recent weeks having lost their last four games, and baring a miraculous turnaround against Barcelona tonight they look set to exit the Champions League.

And to compound their disappointment even further, Muller is reportedly ready to quit Bayern having fallen out with boss Pep Guardiola leaving the door open for United to complete a £45m deal for the World Cup winner.
It could be the perfect time to try and do given the unrest at Bayern, and recent quotes from Muller himself have only fuelled talk of a potential transfer this summer.
The striker spoke of his great relationship with Van Gaal; who has already worked under the Dutchman during his time in charge of Bayern, and it’s clear to see why United fans have started to get excited: “Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes beyond that which is normal between a player and a coach. However, I have a contract with Bayern until 2017.”
Muller’s quotes suggest he may well be ready to challenge himself in the Premier League, having won the lot during his time at Munich including the Champions League two years ago.
And he’s certainly the calibre of player Van Gaal will be looking for, particularly given the question marks surrounding the future of some of United’s strikers.
Radamel Falcao has failed to impress during his season on loan from Monaco, and it’s unlikely he will be offered a new deal.
Robin van Persie has also struggled for fitness and form this season, and given the way the side have performed in his absence; he is another that could be on the move this summer.
And finally there’s Javier Hernandez, who has spent a season at the Bernabeu, but looks like he may also be on the move with rumours suggesting he is not part of Van Gaal’s plans for next season.
With the mentioned trio not certain to be at Old Trafford come September, signing a new striker could well something the United boss is looking to do during the transfer window; and there certainly aren’t many options better than Thomas Muller.
He would be a welcome addition to the squad, and one that would no doubt improve the quality in front of goal as well as the creative options that have been lacking at times this season.
Bayern are unlikely to be happy with the prospect of losing such an important player, but if United match their valuation of the German, Muller’s willingness to quit the club could ensure the Red Devils complete another major coup.
