Fresh from witnessing a defensive and attacking master-class against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's crunch Premier League clash, Manchester United fans have renewed belief that the squad of players they have are actually capable of making 4th or even higher come May 24th.

Fellaini is beginning to repay some of the £27.5m former manager David Moyes spent on him and Wayne Rooney is thriving having being re-instated in his preferred centre-forward position. The England international showed no signs of a hangover from his run-in with Phil Bardsley's right fist and put in another knock-out performance against Mauricio Pochettino's top four challenging Tottenham Hotspur side.

But if they are to make a real challenge for the title next year they will need still need to improve their squad. In light of this, here are THREE talents that can ensure United will be there of there abouts come this time next year:

Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Hummels

United still need a stronger centre-back partnership than the one Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are offering as their back line has looked shaky all season. Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has been on United’s wish list for some time, and while he is his club’s captain, Dortmund have dramatically slipped down the table since their 2012 Bundesliga title victory meaning now may be the right time for the 26-year-old to make a change.

The World Cup winner’s asking price is said to be around £47 million, according to The Daily Express, and in return United would be getting a highly capable player who will sure up their central defence. Hummels can be paired with either Phil Jones or Chris Smalling to see which duo works best or the club may even look at bringing in another player altogether.

Arturo Vidal (Juventus)

Vidal

Manager Louis van Gaal has already admitted that he wants to bring in a central midfielder in the summer transfer window. United have been linked to a few different players but Juventus’ Arturo Vidal has already been publicly praised by the Dutchman.

Vidal joined the Italian giants in 2011, and has since won three consecutive Serie A titles, and looks set for a 4th. The central midfielder is known as a versatile player who can play box to box while assisting defence or attack. Considered a complete midfielder, Vidal is one of the best in his position.

As the Red Devils have struggled with injuries and formations, captain Wayne Rooney has been drafted in numerous times this season to play in midfield due to United’s lack of options, leaving the team unbalanced and out of position. With his domestic titles and European experience, Vidal is just the right type of player to control United’s midfield and help them on their road back to the top.

Memphis Depay (PSV Eindhoven)

Depay

With Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao both only finding a combined total of 14 league goals this season it has been down to Wayne Rooney and a multitude of other players to find the net. United need a consistent goal scorer like Sergio Aguero is for Manchester City and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

With that in mind, 21-year-old Memphis Depay looks the right man for the job. While technically a winger not an out-and-out striker, Depay is Eredivise’s top scorer with 16 goals for PSV Eindhoven this season, and The Interntational Business Times have suggested that he could be set to leave the club this summer. Priced at around £20 million, United would be getting a young pacy talent who already has a good relationship and understanding of Van Gaal’s tactics.
