Top target edging towards Man United move

Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race for Kevin Strootman, with reports from the Daily Star indicating that the midfielder has opened the door for a move by changing his agent.

The Red Devils are understood to have made the Dutch midfielder their top target for the January transfer window, with Louis van Gaal desperate to get in quality cover to protect his backline.

Arturo Vidal was chased all summer, but rumours suggest that Strootman is the player LVG wanted all along.

Yet the 24-year-old’s knee injury prevented a deal from going through, however with his Chilean alternative having not made the United move, the door is open for a raid in the New Year.

And the Oranje star appears to have smoothed the process by switching to super agent Kees Vos – who is also Robin van Persie’s representative.

This could make the process of getting Strootman from Roma to United easier, due to Vos’ links with the club.

Although the Serie A side want to keep their enforcer, offers of over £20m for the former PSV Eindhoven ace may be seen as too good to refuse.
