The 20-year-old broke into the Red Devils’ first team during Ryan Giggs’ short stint as caretaker manager, grabbing a brace upon his Premier League debut against Hull City.
But the England U21 has struggled to live up to his billing since, making just 17 appearances in the following season and finding himself loaned out to Brighton last term.
Wilson netted just five times in 20 Championship outings for the Seagulls and it now appears he won’t be in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans for next season.
Indeed, despite featuring in the Portuguese’s first fixture in charge of the Old Trafford outfit, a 2-0 win over Wigan last Saturday, Wilson has been left out of the squad that will travel to China for United’s pre-season tour.
The squad that did make the cut is as follows; David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Phil Jones, Paddy McNair, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Axel Tuanzebe, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Adnan Januzaj, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young, Will Keane, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney.
