Man United have made a bid to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, according to The Express.

What's the story?

With Belgian international Romelu Lukaku said to be on his way out of Old Trafford after a disappointing season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be on the hunt for new and exciting talents who can replace him at United.

The Express reckon a £35m bid has been lodged for Lyon forward Dembele, who is familiar to British football fans after spending two successful seasons at Celtic.

The paper say that the fee for the 22-year-old could end up going beyond £40m, with Solskjaer believing he can be a key part of his first-team next season.

The right fit?

Solskjaer appears to be looking to build an exciting young team that can be developed with him in charge, rather than relying on tired transfers for marquee superstars.

Dembele is undoubtedly one of Europe's up and coming talents, with his performances for Celtic in the UEFA Champions League and for Lyon this season in Ligue 1 evidence enough of that.

Also likely a future French international, having scored 11 goals in 20 games for their U21 side, combining with his compatriots Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford could see United find a nice blend through the midfield and attack.

A viable Lukaku replacement?

United definitely need someone who can take up the mantle of being the club's main striker and Dembele just so happens to possess incredible confidence beyond his age, often relishing the big occasion.

He's scored against Paris Saint-Germain this season, ending a 21-game unbeaten streak for the Ligue 1 giants, and was regularly Celtic's best player when playing in the massive Old Firm derbies and in Europe.

He netted 20 times for Lyon this term, which for a debut season, stepping up from the Scottish Premiership, is an excellent total and sign he is only getting better.

Possessing plenty of power and pace running in behind defences, he's also adept at holding the ball up with his back to goal.

If he can hit the ground running at Old Trafford, Lukaku could be nothing but a distant memory in Manchester.
