Transfer twist… Man United expecting star to stay

Manchester United are expecting David de Gea to stay at Old Trafford beyond the looming transfer deadline, according to reports from BBC Sport.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for much of 2015, but negotiations between the two clubs involved have dragged on.

Speculation has ramped up since Louis van Gaal dropped De Gea for his side’s season-opening win over Tottenham on Saturday, while Real have reportedly tabled a ‘take it or leave it’ offer of around £21m.

However, BBC Sport claim that senior United officials expect their star stopper to still be with the club come the end of September 1st, and are remaining insistent that Real pay a world-record fee for a goalkeeper – over £32.6m – or send Sergio Ramos to the Theatre of Dreams as part of the deal.

De Gea, 24, is from Madrid and his popstar girlfriend, Edurne Garcia, lives in the city.
