David de Gea has given Manchester United fans reason to be cheerful after revealing that he’s feeling “very happy” at the club now despite having agreed to leave over the summer.
The Spain international famously came close to joining Real Madrid after a summer of intense transfer speculation before a mix-up with the necessary paperwork saw the switch collapse as the deadline passed.
De Gea had actually agreed terms with Los Blancos in an arrangement that would have seen him switch places with Keylor Navas, but he has since signed a new contract at Old Trafford.
Real are reported to be considering a fresh move for the goalie in 2016, yet the player himself has revealed that he’s now feeling “loved” and “very happy” where he is:
“I’m really happy now,” he told ESPN Deportes.
“I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world, where I feel loved by the fans.
“Nobody let me down or disappointed me – these are things that happen. You must look forward, and I am very happy now.”
It remains to be seen if De Gea will stay with United long-term, with his family and pop-star girlfriend Edurne Garcia all living in and around Madrid.
