They’ve done it!
Manchester United have finally scored in the first half of a home game for the first time in 11 matches. Everyone has gone mad at the fact that United, England’s biggest team, have scored in the first half of a home game. Depressing, isn’t it?
Well tonight, not only have they scored one first half goal, they’ve managed two. Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial with the goals – and who says youngsters getting their chance at the top was a thing of the past?
These two games were always going to be crunch time for Louis van Gaal and even Ed Woodward. After yet another quiet transfer window, a team that is struggling so badly that it looks like they have no hope of a Champions League place next season, and suddenly ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City have upped their game with the arrival of Pep Guardiola.
And so, when Manchester United took on Stoke, it was probably Mark Hughes’s team who started as favourites, if all you were going on was the narrative around the two clubs at least. So it’s no surprise that Twitter reacted with shock when Jesse Lingard scored the opening goal for United. In the first half. Yep.

Perhaps the end is, in fact, near, but United fans will have mixed views. If the world ends now, they’ll never get to see their team get better. On the other hand, if it ends now, they won’t have to see Pep Guardiola and Manchester City humiliate them for the next three years….
