Manchester United boss claims England striker at his peak

Wayne Rooney - EnglandManchester United boss David Moyes believes that star striker Wayne Rooney is as good as he has ever been after helping England qualify for the World Cup in Brazil, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Moyes claimed at the start of the season that Rooney could be used as back up to main man Robin van Persie this season after Rooney handed in a transfer request a the end of last season.

The new United boss has changed his mind now though, claiming that the 27 year old is ‘certainly a main player for Manchester United and he’s certainly a main player for England.’

Rooney netted for England on Tuesday night as they made it into the draw for Rio 2014 and five goals in eight games for United so far in this campaign and Moyes believes we are seeing the best of his number 10.

“I saw him like this on the first day of pre-season,” said Moyes.

“I saw him in great form, in great fettle; his training was fantastic from day one.

“I think you can see by his form and the goals that he’s scoring, that hopefully what – was saying from the start was right.

“He’s at an age in his career where he would be one of the main players. He’s certainly a main player for Manchester United and he’s certainly a main player for England.”
