Manchester United legend Denis Law believes that in Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, the club possesses two of the finest strikers in world football.
The Red Devils – managed by Louis van Gaal – have not made an overly impressive start to the Premier League season, and both Rooney and van Persie have struggled to find form, with the former recently serving a three-match ban for a red card in September’s fixture against West Ham United.
Nevertheless, Law is relishing seeing Rooney back in action in this Sunday’s Manchester derby, and believes that his return will provide the Old Trafford club with an important fillip for one of the club’s biggest games of the season.
“It’s an incredible boost to have Rooney back,” Law said.
“He and Van Persie are two of the best strikers in the world really. I would love to play with them.”
Law famously played for both Manchester sides in his day, and although he enjoyed greater success at United than at City, he still backs Rooney to surpass him in the club’s list of all-time highest goalscorers.
“I am sure he can (pass my total) it this season.
“And stay away from injuries he will be the highest scorer in Manchester United’s history.”
