Real Madrid just keep finding a way to win Champions League matches and they are now into their third consecutive final after a 4-3 aggregate win over Bayern Munich.

Europe's elite trophy is notoriously hard to retain but not only have Real done that, they are now surely favourites to scoop the crown three years in a row.

It is all the more remarkable given that they so seldom look at their best. That was again the case for the visit of Bayern as Madrid were outplayed for much of the evening and it was only an absolute howler from visiting goalkeeper Sven Ulreich that spared them extra time.

On an evening where very few home players impressed, Raphael Varane made a major contribution. He made a staggering 13 clearances as Bayern launched an onslaught on the home goal and were unfortunate not to qualify.

That's the hallmark of this current Real team; it just doesn't know when it is beaten and the Frenchman valued at £54m by Transfermarkt typified that last night.

On top of his monstrous clearance haul, he also chipped in with two tackles, three blocks, four headers won and two interceptions and he will have to be at his best again if Real are to make it three in a row.

One man who is looking for defensive reinforcements is Varane's former Real manager Jose Mourinho and we're asking you; should Manchester United should launch a bid for the French international this summer?
