Veteran star desperate for Man United deal

Victor Valdes has urged Manchester United to offer him a route back into top level football, according to reports from Marca.

The 32-year-old stopper is currently a free agent after leaving Barcelona over the summer upon the end of his contract, but a long-term knee injury has, so far, prevented him from finding a new club.

A Bosman move to Monaco collapsed because of his ACL trouble, while rumours suggest that a move to Liverpool collapsed over the Reds’ desire to assess his troublesome joint in depth before offering him a contract.

He has since been training with United – he worked under Louis van Gaal at Barcelona earlier in his career – in a bid to get back to full fitness, which has led to links with a deal at Old Trafford.

And now reports claim that Valdes himself is pushing to become a first-team star at United, with a dispute between the payer and Monaco now having come to an end.

The experienced stopper could offer LVG a top-class alternative to David de Gea, who has been linked with Real Madrid.
