We’ll fight for the title next year, says Man United ace

Robin van Persie believes that his Manchester United team will be back in the running for the Premier League title next season.

The Red Devils have endured a woeful 2013/14 campaign, with David Moyes having struggled before his sacking to fill the void left by the retired Sir Alex Ferguson.

Whatever the result against Southampton on Sunday, United will finish the season with their lowest ever points tally in the Premier League era, and have suffered a humbling seven home defeats despite being reigning champions.

Van Persie himself has been some way short of the player he was last term – netting 14 goals fewer than last season – but he is confident of helping his side to rediscover their form next time:

“Obviously we wanted to do a lot better during the campaign, but it wasn’t meant to be,” He is quoted by The Express.

“I think I missed half the season. I am gutted about that. For next year I just want to stay fit, do well and compete again. I’m sure we will compete again next year. We’ll be back, trust me.”

RvP made his comeback from a lengthy injury on Tuesday night, firing in one of United’s goals in a 3-1 win at home to Hull.
