West Ham United have made an ambitious enquiry to Manchester United over the prospect of bringing Juan Mata to East London this summer, according to Spanish outlet El Confidencial.
Though the Spanish playmaker is a popular figure at Old Trafford, he has a chequered past with new manager Jose Mourinho, who infamously sold him just six months into his return to Chelsea.
The 28-year old is understood to be put up for sale by the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’, with the ever ambitious Hammers said to have enquired.
Ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium, the Irons have been linked with a number of marquee names to celebrate their arrival in Stratford.
Valencia, where he started his professional career after leaving the Real Madrid youth ranks, are also believed to retain an interest in luring the World Cup winner away from the Theatre of Dreams.
He was a £37m signing under David Moyes back in January 2014, though Mourinho’s landing in Manchester could spell an end to his time at the club.
