Matthijs de Ligt has been an inspiration to all young footballers this season. At just 19 years old, the Ajax captain was crucial to the Dutch side reaching the Champions League semi-finals, delivering composed and mature performances and even chipping in with goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus.
Manchester United are on the hunt for a new centre-back after Phil Jones and Chris Smalling struggled to find their best form once again, with Victor Lindelof being the only central defender who can hold his head high after a season of lows for the Red Devils.
The centre-backs haven’t been the only ones facing criticism. Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford themselves have come under fire from fans for their displays in recent months, despite Rashford playing another whole season at the age of just 21 and Lingard enduring injuries throughout the season.
Criticism of the young forward seems awfully harsh, considering he’s been at the heart of everything Man Utd have done well this year, even if his form has withered away.
A video has recently appeared on Twitter, shared by @utedreport, of reported target de Ligt speaking back in 2018, when he talked about the toughest strikers he’s faced and listed Rashford as the hardest of all.
Some Man Utd fans weren’t convinced, and took to Twitter to show their surprise at de Ligt’s comments, while aiming a slight dig at their young forward…
Rashford could be of some use…??Agent rashford
