According to German outlet Kicker, Bayern Munich are unlikely to turn James Rodriguez’s loan spell with the club, which is set to expire at the end of the season, into a permanent move.

The Mirror have reported that, in light of this decision by the Bavarian giants, Premier League clubs are now aware that the attacking-midfielder may be available to sign in the summer.

What’s the word?

Rodriguez joined Bayern on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, as reported by the BBC. He then enjoyed a fine first season in the Bundesliga, culminating in winning the league title with his new club.

This time around, however, Bayern have started the season poorly and Rodriguez has dropped out of their starting XI. The 27-year-old’s current poor form appears to be influencing Bayern’s decision not to take up their option to buy.

If Bayern do not opt to purchase Rodriguez permanently, then it is likely that the 68-cap Colombia international will remain on the market as he has already been deemed surplus to requirements by his Spanish parent club.

If Rodriguez is available to buy this summer, then Manchester United must act fast to land the midfielder.

Perfect candidate

The Red Devils may soon be in dire need of a new creative midfielder able to carve out goalscoring opportunities for the club’s front line, as Juan Mata’s current contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of this season.

Rodriguez would be the ideal candidate to take up the Spaniard’s role in Jose Mourinho’s squad. If the Colombian can return to his best form then he has the potential to light up the Premier League.
