As reported by Football.london, Chelsea attacker Willian has expressed his hopes for compatriot Fred to do well at Manchester United, revealing that he spoke to the midfielder before his move to the Premier League.

What's the story?

Willian himself has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as recently as late May, when Sky Sports reported that the Brazilian was looking to leave Chelsea, with the Red Devils a possible destination.

Now his latest comments are set to increase speculation, after he shared his hopes for his international teammate Fred to shine at Old Trafford after United announced they had agreed a deal to buy him from Shakhtar Donetsk.

As quoted by Football.london, the Chelsea believes the midfielder can make an impact, saying:

Of course, no doubt about that. He has a lot of qualities. He can improve (them) a lot. He goes to one of the best teams in the world. I am happy for him. I hope he does well at Manchester United.

He is very happy to come to the Premier League to play. We talked a little bit about that.

Rated at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, is it now time for United to make their move for Willian?

What would Willian offer Jose Mourinho's side?

With close to 500 career appearances between Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk, Willian has the kind of experience at the top level that can be hugely beneficial to United's bid for silverware next term.

The 54-cap Brazilian international is coming off the back of a superb 2017/18 season, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions. That's the kind of direct goal contribution that would go down a treat in Jose Mourinho's side.

Willian's pace and power would complement the likes of Romelu Lukaku perfectly, adept at dribbling and retaining possession in the final third. He's a clever, technical player at his peak and if he's available this summer, the Red Devils should show no hesitation in signing him.
