Ashley Young's performances in the weeks leading up to Manchester United's 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool had been patchy at best and the calls for Luke Shaw to make a return to the first team were growing ever louder.

Despite that, Jose Mourinho kept the faith with the former Aston Villa man and he was repaid with an outstanding performance that completely nullified Reds flier Mo Salah.

Young dealt with the Egyptian as well as any direct opponent has so far this season. He stayed close to the rest of the back four, limiting the space available to Salah to make his trademark bursts in from the right hand side and also made goal-saving clearances at vital times.

That performance has made Young - valued at £4.5 by Transfermarkt - a contender for the England left-back slot for the forthcoming World Cup in Russia, where the Three Lions will do well to face a better right-winger than Salah.

Young clearly enjoyed it and shared a message to Instagram, taking a cheeky sideswipe at United's fiercest rivals as they geared up for yet another huge match - the Champions League last 16 tie against Sevilla.

As you would expect, United fans absolutely loved it, and we've taken a closer look at some of the best Twitter reaction from Red Devils fans...
