Merson backs Spurs for victory over Leicester

Former Arsenal man Paul Merson has predicted Tottenham Hotspur will continue their unbeaten run this weekend with a victory over struggling defending champions Leicester City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, currently sat fifth in the Premier League rankings, host a Leicester side this weekend that have struggled to live up to their tremendous campaign from last term and they currently occupy 12th place in the table, way off the European spots.

This weekend’s clash is the first time the two sides have met since they battled for the title last season but, with home advantage, Merson predicted a 2-0 win when speaking to Sky Sports.

“It’s an interesting game for Tottenham because they’re coming off a draw against Bournemouth, and if they drop points on Saturday, their next league game is away at Arsenal after a Champions League tie. It’s potentially a tricky little run so it makes beating Leicester quite important.”

Leicester have shown improvements in recent weeks but have saved their best form for the Champions League, where they’ve won all three of their games so far and sit just one victory away from sealing their place in the knockout stages.

However, they need to improve their Premier League performances and will be boosted by the fact Spurs have failed to win any of their last four matches in all competitions.
