Money doesn’t bother Louis Van Gaal, McClaren pleased with Toon start

After losing to PSV on their return to the Champions League group stage, Manchester United’s summer spending has taken more criticism this week as Anthony Martial failed to score against the Dutch side.

The most expensive youngster in transfer history, Martial has however already proven a star for the club, scoring in their 3-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at the weekend.

Speaking about the former Monaco attacker, United boss Van Gaal says we live in a “crazy world,” suggesting that he isn’t fussed about the fee that the club spent on the 19-year-old.

£31million signing Memphis Depay did however find the net for the Reds at the Philips Stadium. After a well-worked goal and finish, the 21-year-old then celebrated against his old club, endearing himself to the Old Trafford faithful even more.

Elsewhere, Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has said the defeat to West Ham United on Monday night was a ‘big lesson’ for his side, but insists he is happy with his start on Tyneside.
