BBC broadcasting legend John Motson has made a bold claim in the wake of Chelsea’s 5-0 thrashing of Everton, implying that Antonio Conte’s side are better than Arsenal’s legendary unbeaten side of 2004 and Manchester United’s treble-winning side from 1999.
The Blues surged to second in the table following their victory, one point behind new leaders Liverpool, with Conte’s reshuffled tactics leading to a resurgence from the Blues this season.
“This was the best 90 minute performance I have ever seen in the Premier League. I put it above anything I saw from Arsenal when they were at their best, I put it above anything I saw from Manchester United because this was football on another planet.”
“Producing football like that, I’m not going to look any further for the champions.”
The bold claims will certainly ruffle some feathers but there is a long way to go until they can be mentioned in the same breath as the legendary Arsenal and United sides, with it all coming down to what the club can achieve at the back-end of the season.
