Peterborough’s director of football, Barry Fry, has revealed that Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs are all scouting teenage midfielder Leonardo Da Silva Lopes.
The 17-year-old caused a stir when he burst onto the scene for the Posh towards the back end of last season, making eight appearances in League One as the ABAX Stadium outfit coasted to a midtable finish.
Given that the Portuguese youngster operates in midfield, natural comparisons have been made with Dele Alli, with the now Spurs man having shone in the third tier in his teenage years before stepping up to the Premier League and earning a spot in England’s EURO 2016 squad.
Further to this, Da Silva Lopes has been the standout performer for Grant McCann’s side in pre-season, and now Peterborough’s director of football, Fry, has revealed that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs are all keen on the starlet:
“The word is out that Leo is a very talented 17 year-old and clubs have been flocking to watch him,” he is quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph.
“We have had no enquiries, never mind bids, but there have been an awful lot of scouts coming to our games just to watch him.
“Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs are among those to have sent scouts to watch him.”
Da Silva Lopes, who was spotted playing for Powerleague FC in a junior league local to Peterborough, appears unlikely to leave this window, but should he impress in 2016/17 there may be suitors ready to offer him a step up.
