Jacob Murphy’s miserable Newcastle season continued at Watford on Saturday, and fans have been debating the youngster’s future.
Newcastle fell to a 2-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday, despite dominating large parts of the match.
Jonjo Shelvey was the standout performer for the Magpies, but fans were slightly less impressed by the performance of Jacob Murphy, who struggled to make any impact on the match, and not for the first time this season.
The 23 year-old was a boyhood Newcastle fan, so many supporters were expecting big things when he signed for the club last summer.
Murphy has managed to make 26 appearances in all competitions, but has scored just once.
Continuing his torrid first season as a Magpie, the young midfielder made just 32 touches in his 52 minutes on the pitch at Watford, completing only 63 per cent of his passes.
Murphy grabbed his only Newcastle goal against Manchester City back in January, but fans are clearly not happy with his Saturday performance or season as a whole.
While some still want to see the boyhood Magpie succeed at the club, others have already given up, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

I want to see Jacob Murphy do well for us, I really do. But this has been a season to forget for him.

He’s shown glimpses but nowhere near good enough

Looks far too weak and unsure of himself for this league
He has all the potential to be fantastic, but he really could do with being loaned out next season to toughen up and get a consistent run of games

Generally, maybe. But he’s young and shown flashes of really good stuff. Now we see if he learns from it. #NUFC
