Queens Park Rangers will be playing in the Championship next season after a pretty dismal campaign that saw them finish rock bottom of the league.

The Hoops only recorded eight wins, scoring 42 goals - a huge 18 of them coming from Rangers' stand-out player Charlie Austin.

A prolific season was capped off with a call up to the England squad, further cementing his place as one of England’s most exciting talents.

The 25-year-old probably kept struggling QPR in with a chance of staying up longer than they actually deserved, but now that their fate has been decided Austin is expected to be picked up by one of a number of Premier League clubs.

These are five teams that should put in a bid for him...

Southampton

Ronald Koeman

Priced at around £10million, Austin may just be what Southampton need to push them into the top six next season.

Graziano Pelle was the club's top goal scorer this season, finding the net 12 times during his first year in English football.

The Saints are will be in the Europa League next season and having both Austin and Pelle leading their attack they are sure to get further in the competition, while maintaining decent domestic form, than they would without the consistent Englishman.

Liverpool

With Mario Balotelli failing to settle in, Liverpool would do well to buy Austin who came fourth, just behind Chelsea’s Diego Costa, as the league’s most prolific striker.

Also with Austin aged only 25, he would be a good, relatively inexpensive, long-term investment.

Despite failing to make it into the top-four this season, Liverpool are still a massive club and you’d expect them to win the race for the striker if they do enter the race for him.

Newcastle United

The Magpies narrowly avoided the drop and if they want next season to be less nail-biting then they’ll need consistent and tireless players like Charlie Austin.

The problem for Newcastle, though, is that given the distasteful situation that is ongoing at the club would the forward want to come to St James’ Park?

With next season’s manager still unknown and a good chance that Newcastle will be fighting another relegation battle, Austin would probably be better choosing a more stable club.

Aston Villa

Tim Sherwood celebrate

The signing of Austin to Aston Villa supposedly rests on whether or not the Villans can hold onto top scorer Christian Benteke.

The Belgian striker had a big dip in form this season but re-found his sharpness before the campaign came to an end.

If Benteke does leave then Austin would be an ideal replacement and would add to the club's home-grown quota. Where at a bigger club Austin may find himself used mainly as a second-choice striker, he would surely be the main man at Villa Park.

Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino

With both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer, not to mention the clear out of several other out-of-favour players, Spurs will need to sign a new centre-forward.

The Lilywhites won’t be able to offer Austin Champions League football but a turn in the Europa League would be a good introduction to playing club football on a bigger stage.

The club are aiming to consistently finish in the top-four within the next few years and an acquisition like Austin just may help Tottenham reach that goal.
