Newcastle planning shock move for Tottenham star

Aaron Lennon’s return in the nick of timeNewcastle are considering a surprise swoop for Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, according to reports from CalcioMercato.

The Magpies are desperate to put their summer transfer failings behind them and appease restless section of the club’s support by stepping up their plans ahead of January.

Alan Pardew is believed to be keen to add a greater attacking threat from wide areas to support Papiss Cisse, and sees Lennon as the ideal man to do so.

The 26-year-old currently faces an uncertain future at White Hart Lane, with Andre Villas-Boas having invested heavily in his squad of late.

The likes of Nacer Chali, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela have all been drafted in, and can all operate in a similar role to Lennon.

As a result, the ex-Leeds man may see his first-team opportunities limited, which could cause him to seek a winter move in a bid to play regular football ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Pardew would almost certainly be able to guarantee him a starting berth, and is confident that his plans to get the ‘Toon’ back into Europe could persuade the flying winger to end his nine-year spell in north London.

Lennon was a key man under AVB last term, where he formed part of a fearsome attack alongside the departed Gareth Bale.

Newcastle fans, would a move for Aaron Lennon be a signal of intent?
