Newcastle to end interest in Tottenham outcast, Watford still keen

Newcastle United could end their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur ace Andros Townsend after a disagreement over his transfer fee, according to Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular role under manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Magpies boss Steve McClaren was keen on bringing him to St. James’ Park this month.

Spurs are looking to sell the out-of-favour winger for around the £14million region, with Newcastle already seeing a loan bid and £10.5million offer rejected.

With McClaren being tipped to look elsewhere for reinforcements, Watford are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation ahead of deadline day on February 1.

Townsend was dropped from the senior squad after clashing with a fitness coach back in November and has not made an appearance for Pochettino since October 22.

The winger is believed to be keen on leaving White Hart Lane and he wants regular football in order to impress England manager Roy Hodgson ahead of the European Championships in the summer.

He has yet to register a single league start this term and has has only made three appearances off the bench.
