According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of winger Jacob Murphy after agreeing a fee in the region of £12m with Norwich City for the England Under-21 international.

The wide-man was one of Magpies manager Rafa Benitez’s top targets this summer following an impressive breakthrough campaign for the Canaries in which he scored eight goals and provided a further eight assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.

The 22-year-old then went on to make an impression for his country at the European Under-21 Championships this summer by coming on to assist the equaliser in the 2-1 win against Slovakia, before finding the net in the 3-0 success against Poland.

Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on the potential addition via social media, and they were divided with their opinions.

While some feel that Murphy could turn out to be a “bargain” in the current transfer market, others feel that the move is a “big gamble” for a side that are looking to avoid being involved in a top flight relegation battle next term.
