Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons was linked with a move away over the summer transfer window, but nothing came to fruition.

The winger has been part of the North-East outfit since 2012 when he joined their academy from Bristol City.

Aarons went on to make his debut two years later, but he has failed to push on and claim a regular spot in the first team.

In fact, the 22-year-old has made a total of 27 appearances for the senior squad, scoring four goals and creating three assists.

Even though Aarons did not seal a move away from St James' Park, he will not figure in Rafael Benitez's plans for the first half of the season, at least.

As reported by The Shield's Gazette, the young player has not been named in the club's 25-man squad.

This news has sparked a mixed reaction from fans, with some disappointed that Benitez is not giving Aarons a chance, while others are pleased that the winger is nowhere near the first team.
