Arsenal target desperate for Newcastle exit

Arsenal have been handed a major boost in the race for Cheick Tiote, with the Ivorian having revealed that he’s ready to leave Newcastle in January.

The tough-tackling enforcer was linked with both the Gunners and Manchester United over the summer, but interest failed to turn into a concrete move for the African ace.

Since then he’s returned to first-team action with the Tynesiders, yet speculation surrounding his future has continued to rumble on.

And now the 28-year-old says that he’s ready to leave St James’ Park in search of a new challenge:

“I want to leave,” he is quoted by the Shields Gazette. “I’ve spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it’s maybe time for me to look elsewhere for a new challenge.

“I will focus on upcoming games and let’s see what happens between now and December.

Tiote went on to say that interest from Arsenal over the summer was genuine:

“It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia,

“I’d prefer to stay in England.”

Tiote has made over 100 appearances for Newcastle since his arrival from FC Twente in 2010 and has been a fans’ favourite at the club for some time thanks to his committed displays.
