Newcastle United are considering making a move for Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter, according to The Sun.

What's the word?

There is not much time for the Magpies to finalise their transfer activity in what has been another frustrating window for the club.

It appears that manager Rafael Benitez wants to bring in a new midfielder before the window closes.

The Sun reports that Arter - valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt - is on the club's radar, but Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are also interested in the Englishman.

The publication claims that the Cherries want around £10m for their long-standing midfielder, who managed just 13 Premier League appearances last season.

Why should Newcastle avoid this move?

Firstly, it has been made clear that the North-East outfit does not have much cash to work with in the transfer market.

If Bournemouth are demanding £10m, then perhaps Benitez should think that the level of cash could be better spent elsewhere.

The middle of the park is not an area that needs significant strengthening at Newcastle.

Also, no disrespect to Arter or the Cherries, but if Eddie Howe does not see a place for him in his team, then the midfielder would likely be a fringe player at St James' Park.
