Banter from above: rival fans have surprise in store for Newcastle

Newcastle United and Sunderland forge one of the most bitter rivalries in English football.

The Tyne-Wear derby is never short of tough tackles, feisty challenges and red cards, with no love lost between both sets of supporters.

And keen to rub salt into Newcastle’s wounds – who are amid a run of five consecutive defeats in the Premier League – Sunderland fans have organised a few whip rounds to pay for a plane to be flown over St. James’ Park this afternoon, carrying the message of ‘Five in a Row’.
