Bayern Munich planning Newcastle raid

Bayern Munich are planning a £5m summer move for Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports from The Metro.

The French full-back has been one of the Magpies’ top performers in an up and down season, producing a number of solid displays.

His performances have alerted Bayern, who are said to be keen to draft in a new right-back ahead of next season.

Although the Bundesliga champions have a number of other targets, Debuchy is seen as a cost-effective option and a player that could be easily tempted away from his current employers.

Newcastle are said to value their man at close to £7.5m, yet Bayern are hopeful that a lower offer will be accepted.

Although Debuchy is a key man at St James’ Park, there are murmurings that a number of first-team players have grown disillusioned since Yohan Cabaye’s January exit.

The French playmaker was a big figure both on and off of the pitch on Tyneside, and his departure is believed to have forced some stars – particularly his compatriots – to consider their options.

Alan Pardew has also already confessed that he may struggle to keep Loic Remy beyond his loan deal.
