Beleaguered Newcastle United boss roars in defiance despite compromising league position

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has remained defiant despite the increasingly perilous position his club find themselves in, according to Sky Sports.

Stoke City condemned the struggling North East giants to their seventh consecutive defeat away from home, leaving them in the relegation zone on goal difference.

Amid growing calls for the former England manager to be sacked, the 54-year old insists he is the right man for the job.

When asked if he thought his job at St. James’ Park was safe, he replied: ‘I don’t see why not.’

Ever since his appointment over the summer, the former Middlesbrough and FC Twente manager has failed to wholly convince on Tyneside.

‘We have been in this position all season,’ he stated after last night’s loss at the Britannia.

‘We are there for a reason, we are going to fight our way out of it and tonight we started to do that.’

Despite spending over £80m on players over the course of two transfer windows, the Toon Army have only been able to muster six wins all season.
