Benitez firm over Newcastle United winger deal despite strong interest

Newcastle United are standing strong over their valuations of top stars despite gearing up for a season back in the Sky Bet Championship, report French outlet La Provence

With Andros Townsend and Georginio Wijnaldum having departed for Premier League pastures new, the Toon Army are said to be keen on keeping many of their top players in Rafa Benitez’s rebuild.

While £13m winger Florian Thauvin flopped during his initial six months on Tyneside and spent the latter portion of the campaign back on loan with Marseille, the Magpies are holding their ground over the 23-year old.

Les Phocéens are understood to have made a second loan offer for the French international, though the terms of the deal are reportedly not to the favour of the North East giants.

Though they are thought to be open to the idea of a sale, those at St. James’ Park will not be bullied into a sale despite their current situation.
