Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote could yet leave the club for pastures new, according to the Northern Echo.
Though the transfer window came and passed the Ivorian bruiser, the 30-year-old could soon be ending his 6-year stint on Tyneside.
Toon boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that the club are mulling an offer made by a club in the United Arab Emirates.
The former FC Twente man doesn’t appear to have much of a place in Benitez’s plans as the Spaniard looks to return the Toon to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
A wealth of options are available to the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach, having been extremely active in the transfer market.
The likes of Jack Colback, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Vurnon Anita contest central midfield berths, with the Magpies largely using only two at a time.
After seeing moves to the likes of Galatasaray and Olympiakos break down over the course of the summer, Tiote could yet be sold.
He has made well over 150 appearances for the club since joining under Alan Pardew’s watch in 2010, bagging a sensational goal in the 4-4 thriller with Arsenal.
“We have had an offer from the Emirates for Cheick, and we know their window is still open”, said Benitez in the buildup to the game with Derby.
”He is a good professional who trains very well and I’m pleased with him.
”At this stage, we’re waiting for the right chance for him but if he doesn’t move, it’s up to us to get the best out of him here.”
